The New Pittsburgh Courier’s 2017 Men of Excellence Awards ceremony was held at the Fairmont Pittsburgh Hotel, Downtown, was an instant classic!
Forty-five local African American men including Lloyd Cheatom, Co-Founder of 1Nation Mentoring, were honored for their achievements and contributions to our community, and of course, Louis “Hop” Kendrick was the ceremony’s Legacy Honoree, totaling 46 African American men shining in the spotlight!

After graduation, he served at Brashear High School in Beechview as a Heinz Fellow, where he joined with Samuel Morant and Lloyd Cheatom to create 1Nation Mentoring, which works with African-American boys and young men in schools throughout the county.

Lloyd Cheatom, a 2013 graduate of Saint Vincent College, was the keynote speaker at Saint Vincent College’s memorial for the late Martin Luther King Jr., the civil rights leader who was assassinated in 1968, on Jan. 24 at the Fred M. Rogers Center at Saint Vincent College.
2017 Black Excellence Summit

The Black Excellence Summit sponsored by 1Nation Mentoring was held Tuesday, January 24th at the Jeron X. Grayson Community Center. The summit focused on pain, healing, and forgiveness with a group of young black men from the city of Pittsburgh.
